The European Institute was granted membership in the European Civic Forum, a network of civic organisations, at the ECF General Assembly meeting held in Brussels on 29 April 2011.  The  European Civic Forum currently gathers together 97 associations and NGOs from more than 28 countries in Europe. Their main purpose is to encourage the social activity and engagement of the citizens through joint actions. The European Institute is the first Bulgarian organisation to join this influential international forum.

Established in December 2005, the Forum runs different projects and campaigns aiming to develop an active European citizenship and to strengthen the role and positions of civil society organizations. The mission of this transnational network is to support the structuring of NGO sector in Europe at all possible levels, to fight for recognition of the civil society voice and to help NGOs participate in the decision-making process. The Forum also encourages new forms of participatory democracy and supports the carrying out of a genuine European civil dialogue.
